Stand of Solidarity

On March 14 hundreds of Chariho students walked out of classes and stood together in a show of solidarity for the students of Majory Stoneman Douglas High School, who were the latest victims in a string of American school shootings. To demonstrate their support for those who were affected by the violence, students gathered in the bus circle and paid their respects as the names of the students who died were read. The national anthem was sung by Chariho Vocal Select, and there was also a show of gratitude to first responders across the nation.

Student organizers Sky Laurent-Kingsley, Coleman Peppard, Avery Moody, Dalton Stone, and others galvanized the show of support and worked with administrators to create a safe event where students could pay their respects to those who had suffered. Moody said, "I felt that things went smoothly and it was a moment for us to unify as a school."
