Unveiling of 'The Green Light'

On December 18th I had the pleasure of attending the unveiling of the third edition of The Green Light, Chariho’s art and literary magazine. It is a delightful combination of student’s artwork, poems, and short stories and highlights some of the best creators that Chariho Regional High School has to offer.

To be selected to be in The Green Light is a high honor as each page is individually designed to both showcase the best art and writing of Chariho, but also to be the most cohesive and aesthetically pleasing that it can be. The whole magazine is a pleasure both to look at and to read.

The Green Light magazine was first established in 2016 and has since had three published magazines, one every year since its establishment. It is the brainchild of three Chariho 2017 Alumni: Marissa Alfiero, the original Editor-in-chief; Dylaney Cianci, he original Managing Editor; and Cassidy Argo, the original Art Director. Assisting them during the first edition was Mr. Rose, Ms. Kenny, Ms. Johnson and Mrs. Caster. During the second instillation of The Green Light these women were joined by three student interns, Raven Caster, Jasmine Lerner, and Haley Argo.

Last year The Green Light lost its original student leadership when all three original staff members graduated. Since their graduation, The Green Light staff has been sliced in half, going from six staff members to three. And yet, even with the brand new leadership and an enormous reduction in staff size, The Green Light has still managed to produce a beautiful magazine thanks to the work of senior Haley Argo, senior Raven Caster, and junior Jasmine Lerner . These students should be very proud of themselves and all of the hard work that went into the creating of this magazine.

During the unveiling of last years magazine, Mrs. Hall revealed the extensive plans for the future of The Green Light including a monthly highlight in our very own newspaper, called the “'The Green Light' Spotlight.”

It is obvious that The Green Light has not only outdone itself this year but has plans to continue to grow The Green Light and to make it even better in the years come. I look forward to the unveiling of this upcoming year’s edition and I commend the students and teachers for the hard work that they do. The Green Light has come a long way since its original magazine and it is expected to go even farther.

If you want to be a part of the fourth edition of The Green Light then you can give or email one of the editors your work. The deadline for submissions is February 22nd, 2019.
